Operation in FATA after consultation: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said there is no military operation underway in the federally Administered Tribal areas (FATA).

Speaking on the National assembly floor, Nisar said any plans for an operation in FATA will be made after holding consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Nisar told parliamentarians it would take up to three weeks to launch an operation in FATA and he has been informed by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif that the plans are ready.

The interior minister further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had summoned the chief ministers of a meeting to discuss the National Security Policy next week. The cost of the policy which is an estimated Rs: 32 billion will be shared between the center and provinces, Nisar added.

According to Nisar, the families of FC personnel who had been killed in 2012 while fighting terrorism had not been compensated. The interior minister announced a 'Shuda (Martyrs) Package' for victims form all forces which be presented in the cabinet session.
