Sana claims Rehman Malik Penned threat letter to Bilawal

LAHORE: Punjab Law Minister, Rana Sanaullah made a startling claim on Sunday, saying former interior minister Rehman Malik authored the letter containing threats to Pakistan People's Party Patron-in-Chief, Balawal Bhutoo Zardari.

Rana Sana was replying to a question while talking to media persons after laying a foundation stone for Thalassemai Center here.

Musharraf's counsels decide to boycott special court

ISLAMABAD: A team of counsels defending the former military ruler General (reted) Parvez Musharraf in treason case have decided to boycott the proceedings of the special court.

According to the sources, the decision was taken as Justice Faisal Arab would continue to hear the treason case.

The sources said Musharraf counsels are of the view that Justice Faisal Arab had decided to dissociate himself from the hearing.

The counsels claimed that Justice Faisal Arab's remarks against Anwar Mansoor are unnecessary and against the facts, the sources added.

Musharraf's Mother In Critical Condition Sources

DUBAI: Former President General (retd) Pervez Musharraf's mother is admitted to intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a Sharjah hospital, where sources said that her condition is critical.

Doctors said that her treatment would continue in the ICU, the sources said.

Pakpattan Police Encounter Leaves 1 Proclaimed Offender Killed, 2 Held

PAKPATTAN: One Proclaimed offender was killed and two arrested in an alleged encounter with the police at the outskirt village on Friday here, Geo News reported.

The police on an information were chasing three robbers running away after having snatched a motorbike, when the robbers started firing to which police retaliated, resulting in one robber killed and two arrested, police said.

The dead robber has been identified as the proclaimed offender Mohammad Yar Alias Yari, who had snatched weapon from a policeman few days ago, while the arrested dacoits have been identified as Aslam and Rustam.

MQM keen on joining Sindh government: Bilawal

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) patron-in-chief, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a message on Twitter said the MQM was keen on joining the provincial government in Sindh.

Bilawal tewwted it would be impossible to work with the MQM if they did not retract their support for martial law and breaking Sindh.

On Wednesday, MQM leader Faisal Sabzwari said his party had been engaged in talks with the PPP in connection with joining the provincial government.

A meeting was also held on Wednesday between Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, former interior minister Rehman Malik and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad wherein relations between the PPP and MQM were discussed.

Bilawal says received a threat letter from LeJ

KARACHI: Patron-in-Chief of Pakistan People's Party  (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari Thursday said he had received 'a threat Letter' from Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ).

In a message on the micro blogging site twitter, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said he would hold punjab government responsible in case of an attack.

The tweer read: "received threat letter from LEJ.Will hold Punjab govt responsible 4 LEJ attacks if Sharif cont 2 give them protection & refuse 2 take action."

In another tweet he said : " Jo Taliban Ka Yaar Hai Woh Mulk Ka Gadaar Hai!.." (Anyone who is friends with the Taliban is a traitor).

Karachi Police Encounter Kills 2 Robbers

KARACHI: Two robbers were killed in a police encounter near Super Highway link road on Monday here, Geo News Reported.

Malir SSP Rao Anwar said that a police encounter with the accused occurred on Super Highway link road when they were running away after having snatched a reti/ bajri truck from Sohrab Goth. Both the robbers were killed in firing during the encounter, while the police recovered weapon and the snatched truck from their possession.

Russian Media Rejects US Claims on Civilian Deaths in Drone Attacks

MOSCOW: Number of civilian's deaths from US drone attacks in Pakistan is far bigger than Washington admits, Russian media said on Sunday.

In a documentary on US drones, the Russian media said over 3000 people half of them civilians have been killed in 350 aerial strikes in Pakistan.

The Russian media called US term 'Signature Strikes' as worrying since in this procedure suspects are killed in US drone attacks without any substantial evidence.

They said the US drone attacks are tantamount to war crimes and sheer violation of international laws.

TTP for 'free peace zone' for talks

PESHAWAR: The banned Tahreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has called on the government to provide the militant organization with a 'free peace zone, so that they can move around safely to move forward talk process.

Speaking to a BBC Urdu, Taliban committee member Maulana Samiul haq said that the Taliban were not able to move freely in the presence of army and FC Checkposts and raids in many areas.

He said that there should be a 'free zone' to hold meetings if the negotiations were formally were formally started.

The cleric said that many TTP key commanders were underground due to fear of arrest. To a question, he said that he was not informed about hideout of TTP chief Mullah Fazlullah.

Rangers Kill three 'terrorists' in Lyari

KARACHI: Three alleged members of a banned organization were killed in an exchange of fire with the Pakistan Rangers Sindh in Lyari area of the city, Geo News reported Tuesday.

According to reports, Afzal Baloch, Hunzala alias Jalil and Irfan alias fauji were killed in Nayaabad area of Lyari.

Explosive material, hand grenades and pistols were also recovered from the possession of the accused.

'Pakistan's radar has no information about missing Malaysian Plane'

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Alsam said Pakistan's radar has no information about the missing Malaysian passenger plane.

Speaking to a Chinese news agency, she said that Pakistan is ready to share any information with the Malaysian authorities if it was available.

"No information about the Malaysian plane is available at our radar as it has not entered our space," Tasnim Aslam was quoted as saying.

"Our radar system has no information about the Malaysian aircraft as it has never contacted our control tower," she added.

She said : " An emergency is declared and the Pakistan Air Force moves into action when any Aircraft flies illegally in Pakistan airspace".

Halt in US drone attacks not part of any deal: Sartaj Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister's Advisor on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said the US had not stopped drone attacks in tribal areas as part of any reconciliation between the two countries.

Talking to BBC Urdu, he said that the US had not stopped the drone attacks as a facility for Pakistan to hold  talks with Taliban.

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to US had told President Obama about ineffectiveness of drone attacks.

"Although the US has not announced formally to stop drone attacks and it will not do so, it seems Obama has understood Pakistan views on use of unmanned aircraft.

Qaim Ali Shah visits Amin Fahim

KARACHI: Sindh Cheif Minister Qaim Ali Shah said on Friday that there was no misunderstanding between him and Makhodoom Amin Fahim.

He said this after a meeting with Amin Faheem a day after senior PPP leader criticized the chief minister for removing his son Makhdoom Jamiluzaman from Ministry of Relief.

Shah said that Jamiluzaman was not sacked from his office instead he was given a month leave and taj Haider was appointed to monitor work in famine-hit Tharparkar areas.

"I never said anything which might have caused misunderstanding" he said.

Us Congressman calls for an end to Pakistan aid

WASHINGTON: US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher has called on the government to stop Pakistan's aid as "Islamabad is not a US ally"

In his address at the US House Of Representatives, the Congressman said that Pakistan's aid should immediately be stopped as the US funds were used against Washington or its friends in Afghanistan.

Reacting to Secretary of State John Kerry's appeal for financial aid for Islamabad, Rohrabacher dubbed Pakistan's war against militants as bogus and a ploy to receive US dollars.

He was quoted by Us media as saying that behavior of Pakistan's military establishment had not been friendly  with regard to US interests.

Gunmen Kill Three In Multan

MULTAN: Unknown gunmen opened fire on a car in Matni tal area,
killing at least three people.

According to police, the three people traveling in the car were Returning from a wedding when the attackers opened fire and fled the scene.

Imran Khan says dialogue divided Taliban in 2 groups

ISLAMABAD: Lauding the government's move to initiate peace talks, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan Wednesday said the process has divided the Taliban in two groups.

Talking to media persons after holding a meeting prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan said he assured of extending unconditional support to the government  for making the process a success.

He said the PTI has proposed to the government to separate those militant groups that are unwilling to engage in peace talks.

China satellite finds floating objects' in Malaysia jet hunt

BEIJING: China says that one of its satellites has detected three large "floating objects" in a region of the sea where it suspects the missing Malaysia airlines flight MH370 had an accident.

China's state science and technology administration said Wednesday that a Chinese satellite had seen the objects in a "suspected crash sea area" on the morning of march 9, adding that the images were being analysed.

The suspected objects were found at 105.63 degrees longitude East and 6.7 degrees latitude North, the administration said on its website.

It added that the objects were spread across an area with radius of 20 kilometers (12 miles), in sizes that appeared to be 13 x 18 metres, 14 x 19 metres and 24 x 22 meters.

Musharraf Trial: Special Court Summons ISI Honcho

ISLAMABAD: The Special Court set up for conducting treason trial against former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf has summoned Inter-services intelligence (ISI) Chief Lt. General Zaheer ul Islam to get cognizance of security threats to he accused.

Musharraf escaped indictment on Tuesday due to interior ministry's security alert pointing out serious security threat to the retired general.

It said militants linked with the Taliban might target Musharraf.
However, the militant organization said it had no plan to attack Musharraf during its one-month ceasefire.

Sources told Geo News that interior Secretary had sent the letter to the ISI Director General in which the special court asked him to appear before the three-member bench on Thursday.

Rangers Kill Nine Suspects In Lyari

KARACHI: Rangers Killed at least nine suspects in Lyari after a clash between two armed groups left 15 people dead in the neighborhood.

As many as 56 suspects were also arrested as the paramilitary soldiers entered Lyari to contain the situation.

Sources said that the suspects killed by Rangers were affiliated with baba Ladla group of a Lyari gang. They said that arms were also recovered during the raids.

3 Robbers Nabbed By Citizens In Karachi

KARACHI: Three robbers were apprehended by residents of the city and handed over to the police in Baldia Ittehad Town.

Police said the robbers were looting the public at a bus stop in Ittehad town area, when the citizens from around the locality caught them red-handed, roughed them up and handed them over to the police.

Stolen goods and motorbikes were recovered from the possession of robbers, police said.

Musharraf' counsel barred from defending his client

ISLAMABAD: Former president Pervez Musharraf's counsel Rana Ijaz advocate was stopped by the security personnel from entering into the special court hearing the high treason case on Wednesday here, Geo News reported.

Talking to media outside the special court here, Rana Ijaz said that he has been told to tender apology for his attitude and on refusal his entry into the court has been banned.

He said he was the lawyer of Musharraf and he was being prevented from defending his client.

Rana Ijaz was yesterday asked by the special court Justice Faisal Arab to get out of the courtroom, following his misdemeanor during the hearing.

Dr Aamir Liaquat arrives in Mithi with relief goods

MITHI: A delegation of Mehmooda Sultana Foundation, led by prominent host of Geo TV dr Aamir Liaquat Hussain arrived in mithi with relief goods.

Rupee further strengthens, dollar selling at Rs 100

KARACHI: Dollar further plunged to Rs 100 in interbank, as the exporters queued to sell dollars on Tuesday, Geo news Reported.

Dealers said that since March 1 until this day dollar fast eroding its value became cheaper by Rs 5.

The fast devaluation of dollar panicked those exporters who had parked their dollars out of the financial system in hope of earning premium. Watching the new trend evolve, their nerves broke down as they head to hit the market.

Dollar further down by Paisa 46 traded at Rs 100 in the inter-bank market on Tuesday
Yesterday also dollar had plummeted by Rs 1.66 to close at Rs 101.46 Dealers said that Pakistan is expected to get more than 1 billion dollar from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reducing pressure of the re-payments and cushioning the value of rupee.

The continued stabilization in the value of rupee will be instrumental in cost of imports cut and help reduce commodities prices in the country, said the market analysts.

Nisar says no army man to be included in new talk committee

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said no army representative will be included in the new committee for talks with the Taliban. He, however, added that the armed force backed the panel, which he said would be announced within two to three days.

He said that the committee will consist of three or four bureaucrats to hold direct talks with the Taliban.


The Minister clarified that the army at no stage had expressed concerns over the talk committee or negotiation process.

"Army's behavior has always been positive," he said and added that Maulana Samiul Haq's committee will move forward the process.

Mother of Islamabad suicide attacker emerges

ISLAMABAD: A women has disclosed that her son blew himself up during the deadly attack on am Islamabad district court which claimed almost 11 lives including a judge.

Sources said that a correspondence between the intelligence and law enforcement agencies revealed that palwasha Khan had told the investigators her son Fidaullah, who went missing on Janary 9, was involved in the attack.

She further told the intelligence agencies by telephone that a report was also, lodged with the Iqbal Town Police Station in Lahore about Fidaullah's disappearance, the sources said.

The correspondence further stated the woman claimed that mastermind of the court attack owned a restaurant.

Malala Yousafzai urges for better portection of children

LONDON:  On Commonwealth Day, Malala Yousafzai has urged the Commonwealth countries to provide better assistance for the protection of children.

She was addressing an event organized in Westminster abbey to celebrate Commonwealth Day.

Malala said it's an honor for her to be there. She said the forum of Commonwealth is basically like a family for all the nations around the world, where no one is judged on the basis of religion, race or gender.

She said that schol-going kids face a lot of trouble every day.
Especially children in pakistan, India and various African countries have to deal with many hurdles like poverty, violence and cultural barriers in order to get education.

The young schoolgirl activist has requested the Commonwealth to guard children worldwide from being exploited through child labour and trafficking.

Queen Elizabeth and other royal family members were also present at the event.

2 Killed, 3 Injured in Turbat Firing

TURBAT: Some unknown people gunned down two persons and injured three at pedak in the outskirts on Tuesday morning here, Geo News Reported.

Levies Force confirmed that some unidentified people abruptly opened fire on five passers-by in pedak town, Killed Shah Mir and Jamal on the spot, while the other three sustained injuries. The injured were shifted to Turbat Civil Hospital for medical aid.

The motive behind the firing could not be immediately known.

11 Khasadar force personnel, child killed in Jamrud twin blasts

JAMRUD: Two vehicles of the Khasadar force escorting anti-polio teams were attacked in the Jamrud Tehsil of khyber Agency. At least 11 personnel of the force and a child were killed in the blasts while several others were injured.

according to the political administration, the back-to-back blasts took place in the Lashoro area of Jamrud followed by firing. Police said the anti-polio team members remained unharmed and took shelter in a nearby house following the explosions.

Those injured in the blasts were rushed to hospitals in Peshawar.

Pakistan is one of the few remaining countries where polio persists and most cases found in its northwest, where militants make it difficult to reach children for vaccination.

Washak Convoy attack: 3 security men killed, 5 injured

QUETTA: Three security personnel were killed and five sustained injuries as their convoy under attack in Washak district on Saturday, Geo News reported.

sources said that some unidentified armed persons opened fire on a convoy of security forces that killed three security personnel and wounded five.

Official sources said that a shootout between the armed persons and security forces was still underway.
