Muslim Salesman Refused To Sell Alcohol
Marks & Spencer has apologised after a Muslim member of staff refused to sell a customer alcohol - and says the employee should have been placed in a "Suitable Role".
Yesterday the retailer revealed that some workers are excused from serving booze and pork on account of their religious beliefs, in contrast to supermarket giants such as Sainsbury's.
Today M&S clarified the situation, explaining that the staff member in question should have been assigned to a till where they would be handling clothes, cakes or other such goods.
A spokeswoman for the firm said: "We regret that in the case highlighted we were not following our own internal policy.

Pak Embassy sets up special welfare fund for the poor
A Special fund has been set up by the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh with the cooperation of its community to help needy compatriots, Pakistan Ambassador Muhammad Naeem Khan announced here on Thursday.
The envoy was speaking at a reception hosted in his honor by the Pakistan ladies club, Humnawa, in the capital. The ambassador's wife Anila Naeem Khan was also present.
"I am proud that I have been able to set up the fund with the help of the community in aid of deserving members, Who seek the mission's assistance from time to time for varius purposes," he said, adding that the fund helps a large number of distressed Pakistanis living in the central region.
Three members from the community have been appointed to manage the funds with the approval of hte head of the Pakistani Embassy.

The Shoura Council has proposed a 40-hour week with a two-day weekend for private sector employees.
The proposal will be put for voting on Monday..
"A final decision on the matter will be taken on Monday after the Shoura Council listens to the views of administrative and manpower committee members," An official statement said.
The committee has brought down the total number of working hours per week to 40 instead of 45. The proposal allows employees to have a two-day weekend upon condition that one days off should be Friday.
Working hours for Muslims are proposed to be brought down to seven hours a day, or a maximum of 35 hours per week, during Ramadan to help Muslims fulfill their fasting duties with ease.
The amended bill emphasizes that an employee should not work for more than five hours continuously without a minimum 30-minute break for prayer and food. In addition, The amended bill stipulates that an employee should not work for more than 12 hours a day.
The bill also states that a female employee should have the right to five day's paid leave if her husband, mother, father or offspring dies or in the event that she gets married.
Female employee should also be entitled to 30 day's paid leave if tasked with caring for sick or handicapped children and be allowed to take an additional month of unpaid leave if needed.
A Muslim woman is entitled to four months and 10 days of paid 'edda' leave in the event her husband dies as prescribed in the Qur'an , While non-Muslim woman will be allowed 15 days paid leave.
Labor law violators will be fined a maximum of SR 100,000 and firms found harbouring illegals will be shut down for a maximum period of one month..

A US Drone has crashed in Afghanistan's Nangahar province, with Taliban militant group claiming responsibility for the incident, Press TV reports.
Afghan officials said the incident took place on Friday in the Chaparhar District of the province.
