Taliban team contacts TTP shura

PESHAWAR: Taliban nominated negotiating committee has made a contact with Tehril-i-
Taliban Pakistan (TTP) political shura and asked it for time venue for meeting.

This was stated by member Taliban team professor Ibrahim, while talking to Geo News here Monday.

He said : "we are waiting for response of Taliban shura and will leave for meeting whenever TTP calls us".

Prof. Ibrahim said the government talks team had asked him for making contact with Taliban.

Karachi Two Gang War Accused Killed In Layari Shootout

KARACHI: Two gang war accused were killed during an exchange of fire between the Rangers and culprits in Lyari  on Monday, Geo News Reported.

According to sources, a shootout between the accused and Rangers' personnel took place near the slaughter house in Lyari, as a result of which two gang war criminals were killed.

The deceased accused were identified as Bilal and Sajjad who were wanted in several cases including murder, sources added.

FO Confirms Receiving Altaf's Request for Green Passport

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office has confirmed receiving Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain's application for renewal of his Pakistan Passport.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam, during the weekly briefing told reporters that the FO had forwarded Altaf Hussain's request to the Interior Ministry for the required process.

The interior ministry response will be sent to Pakistani High Commission in London, however, FO has not yet received it, the spokeswoman said.

Tasneem Aslam further said there was no prisoner swap deal between Pakistan and Britain.

Commenting on Pak-Afghan border surveillance, the spokesperson said it is the responsibility of both the countries.

PM Chairs National Security Meeting Today

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif would chair a high-level meeting to discuss national security today.

The meeting will review the dialogue process with the Taliban and the situation arising in neighboring Afghanistan following the presidential election. Sources add that relations with Iran will also be on the agenda.

The country's top military and civilian leadership will be present during the meeting.

PM's Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Defence Minister Khwaja Asif, interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid will be present from the civilian leadership.

The heads of the armed forces, Chairman joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, DG ISI and DG IB will also be in attendance.

MQM To Stage Protest Demonstration Today

KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) will organize a protest demonstration outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Thursday (Today) against the 'extra judicial killings and forced disappearances' of its workers, Geo News Reported.

Deputy Convener and members of Rabita Committee, families of victims, MQM workers and party supporters will attend the protest demonstration which will be held at 4:00 pm at KPC.

The MQM has appealed to the people to attend the protest demonstration. The party has also planned a protest on Friday (tomorrow).

According to a statement issued by the party, the sindh government is trying to hush the protest instead of preventing such brutality. five tortured bodies of the MQM workers have so far been found while several are still missing, the statement alleged.

PPP Demands Resignation From Abidi Over Party Policy Violation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has demanded Faisal Raza Abidi to tender resignation from his senate membership over violation of party policy, Geo News Reported.

According to a communique issued here Wednesday, PPP General Secretary Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, on the directives of party leadership demanded resignation from Abidi.

Abidi had violated party policy, therefore, the PPP leadership has demanded him to resign as senator.

20 Students Injured As School Van Plunges Into Ravine In Khanpur

KHANPUR: Twenty children were injured when a school van fell into a ravine in Khanpur on Thursday, Geo News Reported.

Rescue sources told that the unfortunate van plunged into a ravine due to over speeding in Khanpur that wounded twenty school-going children out of which five were said to be in critical condition.

Seventeen injured children were shifted to Tehsil Headquarter Hospital, Taxila, two children were transferred to PIMS Hospital, Islamabad due to their serious condition while one was brought to Margalla Hospital Taxila.

Pakistan's 3G, 4G auction draws disappointing bids

ISLAMABAD: a dismal response in this week's auction for next-generation cellphone spectrum licenses means cash-strapped Pakistan will struggle to fund its budget this year, finance and IT ministry officials and telecom industry executives told Reuters.

Pakistan is set to hold long-awaited auctions for 3G and 4G network licenses on April 23, a step the government projects will raise $2 Billion to boost the country's foreign reserves.

But officials say there has been scant interest in Monday's bidding process and estimate Pakistan will raise no more than $850 million.




PTA Rejects Report

The Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) has termed the report by wire news agency Reuters baseless.

The PTA said officials from the Ministry of Finance were not involved in the bidding process and the auction was being overseen by an independent regulator.

PM Sharif Accepts Army Chief's Invitation

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif will grace the passing Out Parade of the PMA long course scheduled to be held at Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul on April 19.

On the occasion, the PM is expected to have a one-on-one meeting with Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif and to discuss the internal and external security and other issues.

Sources confirmed to the Geo News that PM Sharif accepted the invitation extended by the COAS to attend the upcoming event. It is seen as a rare development, as such an invitation has been extended to a Prime minister after a very long time.

The sources further said that a meeting is also expected between the PM and COAS even before April 19.

Interior Ministry Writes To FO Over Altaf Passport Request

ISLAMABAD: Interior Ministry has told the Foreign Office that Muttahida Qaumi Movment Chief Altaf Hussain will have to get National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) before his passport is renewed.

According to Geo News, the Interior Ministry wrote to Foreign office over Altaf Hussain's request for renewal of Pakistani passport and national identity card that the MQM chief will have to visit Pakistan High Commission London.

The ministry said that all the documentation will be done in Pakistan high Commission London.

Five Gunned Down In Karachi

KARACHI: Unknown gunmen opened fire on a shop on Shahra-e-Faisal, killing at least three people, Geo News reported late Sunday night.

Police said that the gunmen opened fire on a confectioner's shop located near Drig Road on Shahra-e-Faisal.

A spokesman for the Ahle-e-Sunnat Wal Jamaat said their legal adviser Amjid and two other activists were targeted in the attack.

The ASWJ condemned the killings and called for an action against the perpetrators. The bodies were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Two other people were shot dead in other parts of the city, Police said.

Four of a Fimily shot dead in Kashmore

KASHMORE: At least four people of a family were shot dead in Bhitayi Colony area of the city, Geo News reported Monday.

According to reports, gunmen barged into a house and opened indiscriminate firing, Killing a couple and their daughter and son.

Police said that the assailants managed to flee after the killings. Identities and ages of the deceased were yet to be known.

Karachi: 25 Held in Gulistan-e-Jauhar Operation

KARACHI: At least 25 suspects were held in a police operation near Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Geo News reported Monday morning.

According to the police the operation was conducted on a tip off about presence of some suspects in Madhu Goth areas Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Entry and exit points of the area were closed during the operation. As many as 200 personnel took part in the operation.

13 Killed in Miranshah Bombing, Rocket Attacks

MIRANSHAH: At least 13 people were killed in remote control bomb and rocket attacks on two vehicles on Friday morning, Geo news reported.

Sources said that the first incident occurred in Tehsil Dattakhel of Miranshah, when a remote control bomb planted by the roadside targeted a vehicle that killed three persons and two sustained injuries.

meanwhile in another incident, a rocket fired on a vehicle at Shawal killed 10 persons. Those killed could not be identified yet.

Khwaja Asif Distinguishes Musharraf From Pak Army

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for De fence, Khwaja Asif Thursday said there was a difference between General (retd) Pervez Musharraf and the institution of Pakistan army.

"As a Minister  for De fence, I value and regard services of the army," Khwaja Asif said while speaking to Geo News senior anchor Hamid Mir in an exclusive interview as part of 'Capital Talk' programme.

The De fence Minister noted that his speech which was presently being run on various TV channels was the one he made 8 years ago in the National Assembly.

Khwaja Asif in the said speech in 2006 from the lower house had severely criticized the role of Pakistan army.

Talks with Taliban Pakistan's Internal Matter: Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday said that holding talks with the Taliban militants was Islamabad's internal matter and nobody has the right to intervene.

Foreign office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in her weekly briefing reiterated that durable peace in the region is linked to resolution of all issue and disputes between Pakistan and India including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.

She said the tow countries have a framework to discuss the issues and dispute comprising eight point agenda but the process stands disrupted for the last three years.

"The prime minister has been invited by the Iranian leadership. The Iranian government has also reiterated that they are looking forward to this visit. Dates are being worked out. We hope that this visit would take place in the first half of 2014," she said while responding to a question.

Blast Leaves 12 Injured In Lahore

LAHORE: At least 12 people were injured in a blast at a shop located at Pakistan Chowk in Ichra area of the city, Geo News reported Friday.

The shop owner said he had been receiving threat calls for the last some days. he said he had informed the police about the phone calls in which he was asked to rs3 million extortion.

He said that the extortionists had also fired shots at his residence last month.

The rescue sources said injured were taken to the Services Hospital for treatment.

Police rushed to the area following the explosion. The Bomb Disposal Squad said that 250 to 300 gram explosive material was used in the blast.

Shoe thrown at Hillary Clinton during speech

LAS VEGAS: A woman was taken into custody after throwing what she described as a shoe at Hillary Clinton during a Las Vegas speech.

The incident happened moments after Clinton took the stage Thursday at an institute of scrap Recycling Industries meeting at the Mandalay Bay hotel-casino.

Clinton, a possible presidential contender in 2016, ducked but did not appear to be hit by the object, and then about the incident.

Security ushered out a women who said she threw a shoe but didn't identify herself to reporters or explain the action.

Authorities said the women would be arrested. the former U.S secretary of state and Democratic senator from New York has been traveling the country giving paid speeches to industry organizations and appearing before key Democratic party constituents.

Imran Khan Says Martial Law Will Destroy Pakistan

LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has said that martial law would be destructive for Pakistan.

"Impose martial law is you want destruction in Pakistan," the cricket star turned politician said, adding that bringing about junta rile was as if somebody goes to a dispensary for cancer treatment.

He said martial law is imposed for a brief period in a country in the wake of problems but in reality the military coup aggravates the problems.

He said when a corrupt man becomes leader he destroys institution like a dictator who ruins institution while trying to become a democrat.

PM Nawaz To Leave For China Today

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will leave for china today (Wednesday) where he will also attend the 2014 Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) in Hainan province.

Sharif is visiting china at the invitation of the Chinese government and will deliver a speech at the opening plenary of the BFA on April 10. He will meet Chinese premier Li Keqiang and other world leaders, including the Prime Ministers of  Australia, South Korea and Kazakhstan.

The prime minister will discuss with his Chinese counterpart bilateral relations and other issues.

FC Claims 30 Suspected Terrorists Killed In Kalat

QUETTA: At least 30 suspected terrorists were killed during a Frontier Corps (FC) operation in the kalat district of Balochistan Whilt ten FC personnel were injured.

FC spokesperson told Geo News the operation was conducted in the parodh area of kalat district during which the suspected militants used rocket launchers, hand grenades and other arms against FC  personnel.

The spokesperson clasimed that the suspected terrorists were part of banned organizations and were involved in attacks on trains and other incidents.

The operation was monitored by IGFC Major General Ijaz Shahid.
