2 Killed in firing outside Karachi mosque

KARACHI: At least two people have been killed and two others injured in a firing incident outside a mosque in the North Nazimabad area of the city.

Police say assailants riding motorbikes opened fire outside the mosque near Gol Market. A car accompanying the attackers was parked on the opposite side of the road.

Police add the two people killed in the firing incident were affiliated with political parties.

NA speaker directs Dasti to submit proof supporting his claims

ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Speaker Ayaz sadiq has directed Jamshed Dasti to provide evidence supporting his claims that parliament lodges have become a center of immoral activities, where Mujras (dance parties) are being arranged and liquor and hash are supplied.

In a letter, the speaker directed the Member of National Assembly (MNA) Jamshed Dasti to submit relevant video and other proof supporting his startling revelations till Monday.

The speaker also directed the security in-charge of parliament lodges to keep the record of CCTV footage safe.

on Thursday, Jamshed Dasti while speaker on a point of order in the National Assembly had claimed that liquor worth Rs: 40 to 50 millions is annually supplied to the parliament lodges and corridors of these lodes reek of unbearably pungent smell of hash.

Dasti had put forward a demand to hold laboratory tests of all parliamentarians to detect cannabis.

Operation in FATA after consultation: Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said there is no military operation underway in the federally Administered Tribal areas (FATA).

Speaking on the National assembly floor, Nisar said any plans for an operation in FATA will be made after holding consultations with relevant stakeholders.

Nisar told parliamentarians it would take up to three weeks to launch an operation in FATA and he has been informed by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif that the plans are ready.

The interior minister further said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had summoned the chief ministers of a meeting to discuss the National Security Policy next week. The cost of the policy which is an estimated Rs: 32 billion will be shared between the center and provinces, Nisar added.

According to Nisar, the families of FC personnel who had been killed in 2012 while fighting terrorism had not been compensated. The interior minister announced a 'Shuda (Martyrs) Package' for victims form all forces which be presented in the cabinet session.

PM to distribute business loans among youths Friday

LAHORE: Prime Minister, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday will distribute the business loans among the youths under Youth Business Loan Scheme earlier approved by the goverment, Geo News Reported.

Sources said that some four to five thousand youths in the range of 21 to 45 years from across the country would initially be benefited with the business loans without any markup.

The loan limit will be from one lac to 20 lacs (2 Million) rupees, while 50 percent quota for women reserved besides quotas for the families and widows of the martyrs and persons from backward areas of the country would be given preference.

YouTube Ordered To Take Down anti-Muslim Film

SAN FRANCISCO: A US appeals court ordered YouTube on Wednesday to take down an anti-Muslim film that sparked violence in many parts of the middle East.

The decision by a divided three-judge panel of the 9th US circuit Court of appeals in San Francisco reinstated a lawsuit filed against YouTube by an actress who appeared in the video. The 9tth Circuit said the YouTube posting infringed actress Cindy Lee Garcia's copyright to her role, and she, not just the filmmaker, could demand its removal.

The court's ruling addressed control of the clip, not its contents, which YouTube determined didn't violate its standards.

''Garcia's performance was used in a way that she found abhorrent and her appearance in the film subjected her to threats of physical harm and even death, ''Chief Judge Alex Kozinski wrote for the majority court.

''Despite there harms, and despite Garcia's viable copyright claim,
Google refused to remove the film from YouTube.''

Garcia said she was duped into appearing in the film by the man behind it, Mark Basseley Youssef.

The 14-minute film, ''Innocence of Muslims,'' Sparked violence in late 2012, but YouTube rebuffed requests from President Barack Obama to take it down, arguing that only the filmmaker and not the actress owned the copyright.

The court said the actress owned the copyright to her performance because she thought it was for another film unrelated to what ultimately aired. (AP)

No Ambiguity In National Security Policy: Nawaz 

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday that there was no ambiguity in the National Security Policy adopted on Tuesday by the cabinet.

Speaking in the National Assembly, he said that the government would welcome any suggestion given by the opposition.

Responding to the concerns expressed by opposition Leader Khurshid Shah, he said that he would seek opinion of leaders of parliamentary parties of political parties.

He said that the government was not confused over the talks with the Taliban and people were alsoinformed about the process through media.

Sharif said that the security policy was a national policy and all the parties should give their input to improve it.

Karachi Unrest case: Geo News Acquires Police Report Submitted To SC

KARACHI: The Karachi police chief has submitted a report of his department's performance to the Supreme Court, showing a decline in the metropolis and a surge in extortion.

The report was submitted to a Supreme Court bench headed by the chief Justice of Pakistan hearing Karachi law and order case on Wednesday.

According to the report, a copy of which is available with Geo News, 601 wanted criminals including 213 proclaimed offenders were arrested since September last year.

The report further said that 5746 policemen were performing duties with VIPs. Besides giving details about number of criminals held by the police, the report said a recent increase in the terror activities was a reaction to police action against militants.

Pak-Iran pipeline not possible due to US sancions: Abbasi

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan  on Tuesday said that work on a pipeline to import gas from Iran cannot proceed because of sanctions imposed by the United Sates and the European Union on Tehran.

The Iranian side of the $7.5 billion project is almost complete, but Pakistan has run into repeated problems paying for the 780 kilometer (485 mile) section to be built on its side of the border.

Last year, Pakistan had asked Iran for $2 billion in financing to build its side of the controversial gas pipeline.

Pakistan Poised For Offensive In North Waziristan

WASHINGTON: Pakistan is poised to lunch a full-scale offensive in its lawless tribal region North Waziristan if talks with Taliban insurgents fail, a senior Pakistan government official said Tuesday.

The Pakistan government recently opened negotiations with the Pakistani Taliban to end years of fighting in the northwest that has cost thousands of lives and forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee their homes.

Peace efforts suffered a setback, however, when a bombing claimed by the Pakistan Taliban last week killed 12 police officers in the port city of Karachi, and a few days later a Taliban faction also claimed it killed 23 soldiers.

The official, who briefed reporters in WASHINGTON on condition he not be identified, said Pakistan's government prefers a negotiated settlement but that preparations have been made for military action if negotiations do not yield the ''right dividend''.

Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who was elected in may, long has favored peace talks over military action to end the bloodshed in the northwest, but he is also pressure from critics to retaliate for any Taliban violence.

The official said Pakistani troops would not have to be sent into the area because they already are deployed there and only wouild to be repositioned for what he said would be a ''very visible operation.''
